Kathie Johnson MA, ACSW, LCSW
Hi, I’m Kathie Johnson your personal lifestyle coach for Better Weight For Me.
I have been working with people in the area of life change for almost 25 years.
In 1981 I received my Bachelor Arts Degree from Trinity College in Deerfield IL. While at Trinity, I worked with the student population as a resident advisor and got my first exposure to the area of eating disorders.
I then immediately went on to Graduate school at the University of Chicago to continue my education to become a mental health therapist. I received my Masters Degree in clinical social work.
After graduation and an additional 2500 hours of working with families and individuals I received my ACSW national certification by exam. And subsequently LCSW by exam as well for private practice treatment.
Post graduate training and certifications in the area of eating disorders treatment and obesity treatment happened concurrently.
Since 1998 I have been exclusively involved in the treatment of obesity by group and individual treatment. I have been fortunate to give seminars and work with 100’s of people to discover their personal barriers to weight loss, and to walk through the process with them. I have also worked in the area of Bariatric surgical treatment for obesity. But no matter what strategy a patient chooses for their initial weight loss beginnings, behavior change is mandatory for eventual success. It has been an exciting and enlightening journey. Every time a new group member joins the fold, I encourage them to look past their seemingly shortcomings to successful weight loss for their many clues to successful weight management…What they have learned about themselves etc.
Being involved in Better Weight For Me has been a dream come true in many ways. It has become my passion for helping others with their weight management issues, seeing the changes they have made and successfully maintain their weight loss and live full lives. Instead of limiting the number of people who can come to my classes by either cost or distance limitations, I am fortunate to invite you to my classes, where I will help you debunk some myths of weight loss, challenge you to make difficult, yet rewarding changes, to learn more about your own eating styles and develop tools to manage your weight, and actually have some fun while you are doing it. Where else can you come to class, learn a little, laugh a little, perhaps cry a little, and be among friends?
We all have a journey to travel in our lives and we sometimes get in our own way of achieving the goals and dreams we desire. Weight loss is one of those journeys, but my hope for anyone who comes to my class is to open up the possibilities of living your life to the fullest where weight will not be a barrier to activity.
